Interview With the Monster Hunters

Miles Boothe is interviewing the authors from his Legends of the Monster Hunter series. In some cases, the characters from the stories themselves are stepping up to the microphone (or keyboard, as the case may be) to field the questions. Never a dull moment or a dodged question and quite a few interesting tidbits.
You can see the lineup of authors a couple of posts back.

My own interview will be coming up soon.

Room with a View

This picture of astronaut Tracy Dyson has been out for a while now but I just stumbled across it a few days ago. This is the sort of image that comes to mind when I think science fiction. Silly, huh? Not starships flashing through slipspace or laser stand-offs orbiting neutron stars. No, this is what we can do today. Why does that say science fiction to me? It must be the inspiration factor. Seeing what we can do pushing my imagination into what we will do, what we should do.

I have a folder filled with inspirational images I scan through every so often. Things to keep my subconscious chugging along on new ideas, yet not forgetting the old ones. Everything from characters to landscapes to, yes, starships.

There's always been something about staring down at the earth from a space station that's always held a special place, though. Here's the image that held that spot until now. A dual-wheel space station similar to many seen on screen, most notably the one featured in 2001: A Space Odyssey. True, the ISS is no Space Station V, but it fits my bill just the same. (I don't where I got this image exactly and my search for attribution failed. Thank you whoever you are. And that you NASA and Tracy Dyson for this new piece of inspiration.)
I've placed a couple of stories of my own on such stations. "Colors in a Box, Some Missing" as featured in the Confluence 2010 program book is one example and "Scrap," soon to be reprinted in Joe Jablonski's Undead Space, is another.

That folder of images plays a part in almost every story I write and with shots like Ms. Dyson's, there's bound to be more set in the near future looking down on a certain cloudy blue planet.

Legends of the Monster Hunter

Use Enough Gun: Legends of the Monster Hunter III from Pill Hill Press will be available soon. Editor Miles Boothe has compiled this third anthology of monster hunting goodness with a twist. All the stories in this edition chronicle those unfortunate hunts where everything didn't go as planned. The good guys don't always win, the monsters don't always lose, and the hunters aren't always the only ones doing the hunting.

My story, "House Hunters," is a stand-alone sequel to another story, "Hunted House," which Pill Hill published in June 2010 in their Haunted anthology. From the moment I put down the metaphorical pen from "Hunted House," I'd been itching to pull those characters back into a sequel and Use Enough Gun was the perfect opportunity to take a shot. My thanks to Mr. Boothe for choosing "House Hunters." I'm sure there were lots of great stories to chose from and I'm honored mine made the cut.

I don't have a cover for Use Enough Gun to post, but I imagine Mr. Boothe will stick with the same look, which I like quite a lot.

Now with the second House Hunters story complete, I can't help but feel a third story coming on. Yep.  Working title: "2BR/2BA, Hell of a View."

At the end of this post, I'll list the tables of contents follow for all three volumes, though the names may not be listed as they appear in print. Some great stories in these books, ladies and gentlemen. I hope you have the opportunity and the inclination to give them all a try. A word of warning, though. These are not how-to books. If you do encounter actual monsters, get the hell out and call the professionals. And for God's sake, never, ever ask, "What could possibly go wrong?"
